Preparing Your RV for Fall Weather Insurance Essentials

As the vibrant colors of fall begin to emerge, it can be the perfect time to prepare your recreational vehicle (RV) for the cooler months ahead. Proper preparation can help ensure your RV remains in top condition and ready for autumn adventures, and that includes RV insurance.

Prepare your RV for fall with the following tips:

• Inspect and clean the vehicle. Begin by thoroughly inspecting your RV for any damage or wear and tear. Check the roof, windows and seals for leaks or cracks. Clean the exterior and interior, paying particular attention to the roof and awnings. Removing dirt and debris helps prevent mold and mildew growth.
• Winterize the plumbing. Drain all water tanks to prevent pipes from freezing. Use RV antifreeze to protect the plumbing system. Don’t forget to drain the water heater and bypass it if your RV has a bypass kit.
• Check the heating system. Test the furnace and clean or replace the filters to help ensure your RV’s heating system is in good working order. If you use portable heaters, inspect them for any damage and ensure they are safe to use.
• Check the condition of your RV’s batteries. Clean the terminals and ensure they are fully charged. Consider removing the batteries and storing them in a cool, dry place if you plan to store your RV for an extended period,
• Update your insurance. Review your RV insurance policy to help ensure it offers adequate coverage for the fall season. If you don’t already have it, consider adding comprehensive coverage, which protects against noncollision-related damage such as theft, vandalism and severe weather.
